Horses, dogs, cats and birds - your furry and feathered (and even hairy and scaly) family members are most welcome at Diamond Forest Cottages. Up until now these are the pets that have accompanied their owners on holidays, and all have been well behaved and have enjoyed their holiday along with the rest of the family.
Forest and Bluegum Cottages are the pet friendly cottages at Diamond Forest. They are very popular so if you are planning a holiday with your pet it is advisable to book well in advance. Each of these cottages have a queen bed in the first bedroom and a king single and a double bunk in the second bedroom, sleeping 5 people, and at this stage are the only cottages on the property set up as pet friendly accommodation.
All 4 cottages at Diamond Forest Cottages are exactly the same. They are all two bedroom, western red cedar externally with Colorbond roof; Cyprus pine cladding, slate floors and raked ceilings internally. All have verandas front and back with picturesque views towards the dam and each cottage is situated privately from the others.
The pet friendly Forest and Bluegum cottages each have a 2m high, 6m x 6m outdoor grassed enclosure of chain link wire mesh; with direct access from inside the cottage through a sliding glass door onto the gated veranda and down a set of steps. This means that you may leave your poochie in safety, security and comfort while visiting any of the many national parks in the area. Each enclosure allows poochie to shelter from sun and rain either on or under the enclosed veranda.
Your pets are allowed on the slate floored areas inside the cottage, however are required to be kept off the carpets, furniture and bedding. The doors to the carpeted bedrooms can be shut, thereby allowing pets free run of the slate floored areas within the cottage. Covers are provided for the lounge suites.
Rules regarding dogs on the property are basically those imposed by any local Council: dogs must be kept on a leash at all times on the property as there are lots of free-range pet animals that many dogs can’t resist the temptation to chase, and other guests on the property that may not be comfortable around dogs; all droppings must be picked up (including those in the dog enclosure at the cottage); and dogs must not cause a nuisance by noise or otherwise to other guests.
"Crate training" can be a useful tool for pets that will be regularly travelling with the family and also in general daily life. A properly crate trained dog will think of the crate as their own safe place and will be happy to spend time there when needed. The familiarity of the crate can help your dog to feel comfortable in unfamiliar surroundings and in circumstances when you have to go out and need to leave him or her behind.
Much of the area around Pemberton is National Park and dogs are not allowed; however they are allowed on lead around Big Brook Dam and also in the Diamond State Forest directly across the road from Diamond Forest Cottages. Additionally, some of the lovely restaurants and wineries in the area are pet friendly and will allow your well behaved dog to join you for lunch.
For horse enthusiasts who love to holiday with their four-legged friend there is a labyrinth of great logging tracks that can be followed on horseback for miles and miles through the Diamond State Forest adjacent to Diamond Forest Cottages. Additionally, for your peace of mind, your equine friend will be accommodated in full view of your cottage, in a safe grassy paddock with water available. Fences are constructed of reasonably new ringlock wire and mostly treated pine posts, with some star pickets, and sighter wire on the top.
